Our church has always viewed body and soul as inseparable thus stressing the necessity for preserving both in good health, following our Lord, Jesus Christ’s exhortation to his disciples to “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons” (Matthew 10:10). This follows Christ’s ministry to “heal the broken-hearted, and to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind” (Luke 4:18; see Isaiah 61:1), and to heal “all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease (Matthew 4:23).
In healing, the Church follows the procedure prescribed by the Apostle James: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sin, he will be forgiven” (James 5:14-15).
